Darwin Pool Filter
Nothing ruins a swim faster than cloudy or murky water. At Figleaf Pool Products in Coconut Grove, we help locals across Darwin avoid that hassle with quality pool filters that do the heavy lifting. We’ve seen too many pools suffer from weak or neglected filtration systems that just can’t keep up with our tropical climate—especially when leaf litter, dust and heat push your pool to the limit.
That’s why we take the time to match the right filter to your setup, whether that’s a cartridge, sand or glass filter system. We’ll talk you through the differences, break down maintenance needs and help you make the kind of choice that actually saves you time and money in the long run.
Got questions about how your filter’s performing? Give us a call on (08) 8985 5255 and we’ll help you get your pool water back to clear and clean in no time.

Clean Water Starts With the Right Filter
Pool filters are your pool’s first line of defence, pulling out dirt, debris, oils and other grime that chlorine alone can’t handle. But not all filters are created equal—and not every setup needs the same thing. We’ve worked with everything from small backyard pools to large commercial systems, so we know how to recommend the right filter for your water quality, usage and maintenance style.
Cartridge filters are low-maintenance and great for smaller setups, while sand and glass filters are better suited for larger pools or those wanting deeper filtration. We also help with replacement cartridges, media changes and troubleshooting pressure issues, so you can keep things running smoothly without second-guessing.
Whether you’re replacing an old unit or building something new, we’re here to help you get the best results with the least effort. Pop in or call Figleaf Pool Products today.

How often should I clean or replace my pool filter?
The answer depends on the type of filter you have. Cartridge filters should be cleaned every 4–6 weeks and replaced every 1–2 years depending on usage. Sand filters typically need a backwash every 1–2 weeks and a full sand change every five years. Glass media filters require less frequent backwashing and can last longer—up to 10 years with proper care. Signs that your filter needs attention include reduced water flow, higher pressure on the gauge and cloudy water even when chlorine levels are correct.
What is the difference between sand, cartridge and glass filters?
Cartridge filters use pleated material to trap dirt and are easy to clean with a hose. They’re best for smaller pools or where water conservation is important. Sand filters use silica sand to trap particles and are cleaned by backwashing, which flushes debris out. They’re low-maintenance but require more water to clean. Glass filters use fine, recycled glass media and offer superior filtration, trapping smaller particles than sand. They need less backwashing and are more eco-friendly but cost a little more upfront.
Why is my pool water cloudy even though my filter is running?
Cloudy water often points to filtration issues. It could be that the filter media is dirty or clogged, reducing water flow and leaving fine particles behind. It could also be a sign that the filter is undersized for your pool or that your pump isn't circulating water efficiently. Other culprits include unbalanced chemicals, high calcium hardness or poor sanitisation. If cleaning or backwashing doesn’t help, it might be time to upgrade or inspect your system more closely.
